MOBA (“Multiplayer online battle arena”), also known as ARTS (“Action real-time strategy”) is one of the most popular game genres of nowadays. They combine within themselves features of action games and real-time strategy games, the player controls one single character and is a part of a team of 5 people facing another team of 5 players. The game happens in predefined areas (maps) and has a single and clear requirement for succeeding and winning, the common aim being to capture the other team’s base. The most popular examples of MOBA games, may it be Dota 2, League of Legends, Smite or HON, have fantasy-related themes, but Merc Elite stands out by being a military-themed game focused on modern warfare, guerilla battles, and a unique direct-fire combat system. This unique system is built as a realistic simulation with a variety of options like using cover and unlimited tactical options, which is exactly the thing that makes MOBA games so captivating and intense. The plethora of weapons, abilities, and mercenary types (“mercs”) add to the already rich gameplay possibilities.

The graphics are not very intricate or impressively advanced, I guess that's to keep the game client light, resource-friendly, and suitable for a larger range of computers, not only for the high performance machines. Anyway, they look pretty nice and they don’t represent a matter for criticism. On the contrary, the graphics are one of the things that I like the most about this game. The sounds are also well-done.

To sum it all up, Merc Elite seems really interesting. Though I’m a huge Dota 2 fan, Merc Elite managed to look very appealing to me, and I can hardly wait to give it one more try after my work hours. The fact that it’s also free makes me recommend it with all my heart.
